4 Green Superfoods Your Lips are Craving
At Edible Beauty, we strongly believe that what goes on your body should be good enough to go in it!
The skin on our lips is far thinner than that on the rest of our bodies, which means that anything you put on them is absorbed more easily. There is also the risk of ingesting what you put on your lips when eating, drinking, or licking your lips throughout the day. So, when your lips are dry, chapped, and dull, why reach for a lip balm full of chemicals and toxins that only offers temporary relief, when you could feed your lips nourishing and hydrating superfoods?!
The skin on our lips contains fewer oil glands and is thinner than that on the rest of our bodies. Our lips are also unable to produce melanin which is what protects us from the sun. This essentially means that our lips have no protection of their own and need a little help to stay hydrated and healthy!
We love using superfoods in our natural skincare and booster serums and have now taken advantage of these incredible ingredients in our Green Goddess Lip Oil. This lip oil blends ultra-nourishing, green superfood oils designed to hydrate and restore dry, chapped lips.
Below are our top four superfoods we think you should be putting on (not just between) your lips!
Avocado oil forms the base of our Green Goddess Lip Oil. We definitely aren’t the only ones that enjoy avocado on toast, or in a salad – but now, we are loving it just as much on our lips!
Avocado Oil is a rich oil with the ability to deeply penetrate the skin, making it the ultimate rejuvenator for dry and chapped lips. With a particularly high content of essential fatty acids, Avocado Oil is wonderful for hydrating and nourishing. The oil is also abundant in in Vitamins A, B, D, and E – which helps to moisturise and protect the skin from damaging UV rays.
With high levels of oleic acid, Avocado Oil acts as a carrier oil, meaning is combines with other oils to help absorb their nutrients into the skin of the lisps. Avocado Oil is also a humectant, drawing water molecules deep into the lips for ultimate hydration.
Broccoli Seed Oil contains an abundance of skin-soothing fatty acids including Omega 6s and 9s. These nutrients deliver intense nourishment and work to calm dry and unhappy lips. It absorbs well into the lip to lock in moisture and keep skin feeling hydrated and resilient.
Broccoli is also abundant in Vitamin A and other antioxidants that shield the skin from the effects of environmental pollution and help to strength the skin barrier. Sulforaphane, a compound found in Broccoli protects the lips against UV Damage.
Hemp Seed Oil is abundant in essential fatty acids (over 70%), which mimic the skin’s natural oil barrier. This makes hemp a powerful hydrator for dry lips. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids in Hemp Seed oil help to soothe and nourish lips that are irritated and chapped.
Alfalfa Seed Extract is packed with a broad spectrum of essential nutrients, including proteins, a variety of minerals and vitamins which provide revitalising, protective and anti-ageing action.
Alfalfa is abundant in Vitamins A, C, and E, which help to deeply hydrate, nourish and brighten the appearance of the lips.
Alfalfa has also been shown to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We love applying our Green Goddess Lip Oil under the eye for added hydration and Alfalfa’s anti-ageing benefits.
Green Goddess Lip Oil
Lips can be incredibly hard to hydrate with many balms and lip glosses just not cutting the mark when it comes to effective hydration. This green lip oil blend provides a surge of hydration via nutrient rich superfoods that we all enjoy eating, and which your lips will equally enjoy. The Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) present in this oil blend are what set this oil apart from others on the market. Found in Avocado, Broccoli and Hemp, the EFAs mimic natural oil in the lip barrier, effectively restoring the skin barrier and surging hydration deep into the lips.
